Thanks To Our Delegates to LWVUS Convention

The 800+ local leagues in the U.S. are allotted a number of voting delegates at the biennial national convention, this year held June 23-26 in Denver, CO.  LWVMC’s 10 delegates attended virtually, but gathered at Summit Place to watch the proceedings together and discuss the motions before voting. The delegate responsibilities entailed more than 20 hours, including attendance at plenary sessions and breakout sessions, plus studying materials ahead of time, much of it from local leagues encouraging votes in favor of their recommended resolutions, program priorities or bylaws amendments.
Many thanks to the delegates who represented LWVMC: Ann Batiza; Linda Brundage; Peggy Creer; Shirley Halloran; Melissa Kelley; Barbara Rasmussen; Peg Schrader; Donna Spars; Mary Ellen Spicuzza; Leigh Ann Tidey.

Seeking Coffee Sale Coordinator

If you have good organizational, communication, promotion and people skills, enjoy wearing multiple hats, are flexible and like a challenge, you will enjoy and excel in this role. The Coffee Sales Coordinator helps the League raise much-needed revenues to support its basic operational expenses. The Coordinator recruits volunteers for sales and for packing and delivery; writes and schedules messaging on the website and in weekly Updates, email blasts and social media; organizes and places coffee and printing orders; and organizes coffee for packing and delivery, among a variety of other responsibilities.

Planning and recruiting begins in July, the sale ends in late October, and packing and delivery takes place in late November. During July-October, about 4-6 hours per month would be required. In November, 20-25 hours would be required. Interested? Please contact Mary Sussman at m.sussman@lwvmilwaukee.org for further details.

Visit VOTE411.org

Today marks the publication of local candidate responses to questions posed by the League of Women Voters of Milwaukee County who are competing in the August 9 primary election. Their responses join the already published candidate responses for national and state races appearing on the August 9 partisan primary ballot.

Help us reach local voters by using and promoting VOTE411.org this fall.

  • Between now and Primary Election Day August 9, go to VOTE411.org. Fill in your address to find your polling place location and to see who is on your personal primary election ballot. Compare candidates’ answers to questions posed to national, state, and local candidates in the primary election.
  • Spread the word to family, friends, and neighbors. VOTE411.org is available 24-7 and will go wherever your phone or tablet goes, even to the polls on Election Day.
  • If you are on Facebook, like and share posts about VOTE 411 from the LWVUS, LWVWI, and our local League.
  • Return to  VOTE411.org between September 21 and General Election Day, November 8, to see what is on your personal general election ballot and compare answers of national, state, and local candidates running for office in the November 8 general election.
Next week, we’ll return to the roles and responsibilities of the various offices voters will see on their fall 2022 ballots.

Help with Milwaukee League’s Email

Sometimes members inadvertently become unsubscribed to email in our system. When it happens, they need assistance to re-subscribe. We seek a volunteer who would be willing to do this task, probably about once a week.
Right now, the email list of about 600 members needs a little cleanup. But once that’s accomplished, it’s a matter of routine maintenance.
If you have a little time and email know-how, please contact Member Engagement Team at volunteer@lwvmilwaukee.org.

League Cafe will meet on Friday, July 29 at 10 a.m. in the central courtyard at Villa Terrace, 2220 N. Terrace Avenue, to continue discussion of The 1619 Project by Nikole Hannah-Jones. Please join the group for a discussion chapters 9-12.

The Villa Terrace courtyard is open to the public, free of charge. You can access Terrace Avenue at the very eastern end of North Avenue (just east of the water tower). There is ample free parking on Terrace Ave. (ook for the 3 hour spots, not the1 hour spots) as well as on the cross streets. Bring your own chair and coffee.
