Advocate for Polling Place Accessibility

Accessibility Auditors

The Wisconsin Election Commission (WEC) Accessibility Audit Program will be conducting accessibility reviews at polling places for the August Partisan Primary, as well as the November election. These reviews of polling places are a critical step to ensure our polling places are truly accessible for all.

The WEC is recruiting people to hire and train to do these reviews. Please consider applying - this is a short term commitment. They're looking for people from around the state so they can reach as many polling places as possible. However, you will be required to go to Madison for training, as well as make a commitment on Election Day.

To Apply: Complete the application process with Spherion, the temp agency the WEC works with. Here is the link to the temp position through Spherion: https://www.spherion.com/jobs/elections-site-auditor_madison_39728094/.The process takes some time so if you are interested, don’t delay!

Poll Workers Needed

As the frontline election staff, poll workers play a pivotal role on Election Day. We know that a friendly, knowledgeable poll worker can make the difference for a voter trying to make their voice heard at the polls. Unfortunately, many of our communities struggle to find enough poll workers to fill these vital roles. Have you considered serving your community as a poll worker?

Find information about how to sign up to be a poll worker here.

Around the corner!!

August 9 is the primary election - be prepared to vote!

One of the local races is the County Sheriff in Milwaukee and Waukesha Counties.

What does the County Sheriff do?
  • The County Sheriff has charge of the county jail and has custody of the persons in the jail.
  • The Sheriff is required by state statute to attend the circuit courts.
  • Sheriff Deputies serve as bailiffs, provide security for the circuit courts and transport prisoners to and from court. They serve or execute summons, orders, and judgments.
  • Recognizing that safety is a community responsibility, the Sheriff’s Office maintains the peace throughout the counties and provides services to protect life and property through the enforcement of federal, state, and local laws.
  • In Milwaukee County, the Sheriff provides law enforcement presence at Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport and the Milwaukee County Institutions Complex. The Sheriff’s Office has patrol responsibilities. In both counties, they patrol the freeway. In Waukesha County, they also have contract patrol services in various parts of the County.

Fund Development and a Fun Night!

Do you want to have a fun evening while doing a great service for LWVMC?

We have an opportunity for a fundraising event cosponsored by the Greendale Community Theater. The Greendale Community Theater is committed to community support and thus picks nonprofits such as LWVMC to support at each of its performances. To date they have raised nearly $60,000 for various community organizations.

This year they are performing Mary Poppins which has a musical number about women’s suffrage. The Greendale Theater thought linking the LWVMC and supporting us at its performance was a good match.

So we need volunteers to be at each of the evening performances on July 28, 29 and the matinee on July 30 and the evening performances on August 4, 5 and the matinee on August 6. We will have a table at each performance and will answer questions and have materials for distribution but as it is in the moratorium period we will not be registering people to vote. At the end of the performance we will stand at the exit with a basket accepting donations from patrons. The theater is at the Greendale High School and has 800 seats.

We are asking for 2 volunteers for each performance, each volunteer will receive 2 tickets so that you can bring someone with you to enjoy the performance.
