Subject: LWVMC: Weekly Update for Dec. 15
From: League of Women Voters of Milwaukee County

Happy Thursday!

Here is your Weekly Update for League of Women Voters Milwaukee County (LWVMC) news, information and events.

THANK YOU!!

The Spring 2023 Election is just around the corner!  The dates are

  • Tuesday, February 21 for the primary election, and
  •  Tuesday, April 4 for the general election.

The VOTE411 team thanks LWVMC members who submitted ideas for questions that will be posed to the local candidates in the Spring 2023 online VOTE411.org Voter Guide.

A big thank you to the Community Volunteers in each municipality and school board district who are helping the VOTE411 team by finding out from the municipal clerks and the school district clerks which positions are up for election in the spring.  Later this month and early in January they will contact the clerks to find out who is running for those positions.  This help is invaluable to the VOTE411 team!!

Watch future Updates for communities with races in Spring 2023 and for ways you can help make the next online Voter Guide a better tool for educating voters on the issues before they go to the polls.

In January, check out the Winter 2023 VOTER publication for a Q & A about VOTE411.org

Wisconsin, as a state, has gone from being a conservation leader to failing to establish a basic standard for the contaminant PFAS in groundwater. How? The League of Women Voters of Milwaukee County is co-sponsoring a virtual program that helps to answer this question. “Imbalance of Power” will highlight the shift in power that has occurred over the past 10 years between the state’s three branches of government – legislative, executive and judicial. The impacts of specific laws and court rulings, as well as the inability of the legislature to act on executive appointees, will be discussed. The program concludes with specific actions and policy changes that can help restore the balance of power in Wisconsin.

Registration for this free program is open to the public and available by clicking on the button below.
