Subject: LWVMC: Weekly Update for September 14
From: League of Women Voters of Milwaukee County

Happy Thursday! Here's this week's Update for League of Women Voters Milwaukee County (LWVMC) news, information and events.

Consider spending an hour or so meeting new and returning members while enjoying yourself at Estabrook Beer Garden (in Estabrook Park, 4600 N. Estabrook Pkwy, Milwaukee) on Thursday September 21 from 5:30-7:00. The Membership Committee is sponsoring periodic Meet and Greets - we wanted our first to be held outside while we still have warm weather and thought the Beer Garden would be a great location.

No formal program - just an opportunity to socialize and to find out about current activities.

Look for table decorations at one of the tables.

Rain Date: September 28

Volunteers Needed in the High Schools

Five MPS schools are holding registration events during the week of September 25 and we need volunteers in each one. This is a chance to welcome new voters and to get them started on what we hope is their lifelong commitment to the democratic process.

If you have taken the high school training, check out upcoming events on the Sign Up Genius link. Check often as it gets updated frequently. If you need to take the high school training, you can do so online at Voter Registration in Milwaukee and Waukesha Area High Schools High Schools. At the end of the online training, you can sign up to receive notices about the upcoming events.

Yes, Your Vote Really Does Matter

Source:  Excerpt from: Vote (page 6, Issue#9. September 2021). Civic Life Today.  Points of Light.  www.pointsoflife.org

When your vote is one out of thousands or even millions, it can be difficult to see how it could possibly impact an election one way or another.

If you’re still on the fence about the power of your vote, think about why then there have been so many efforts throughout history to make it more difficult to do so in some communities and countries.

If there are groups of people working to make it more difficult to vote, it’s because there is power in our votes. So while there may be a number of barriers and reasons why you’re hesitant to vote, remember that your vote matters and its implications for greater representation, and go vote!!  Then encourage others who may be questioning whether they will vote to do the same.
