Championing Issues that Matter Most to You July 23, 2025
11:00 AM-12:15 PMET
Now more than ever specific issues call out to voters. In the words of the mighty former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Tip O’Neill “all politics is local”. As bleak of a political environment as we find ourselves, there are still structural issues that all interface and alignment that create the lifeblood of our democracy.
It’s imperative that League Leaders from local Leagues to state Leagues. From voter services committees, to board members, to members of communications committees all over the map find and elevate the issues that speak to them, and call them to action. A harrowing fact is that 60M Americans didn’t vote in the 2024 presidential election and that speaks volumes. The choice to abstain and not make an active decision to exercise your right to vote is a loud act of resistance. Instead of abandoning those voices or leaving them behind, how do we invite all voters to the table for a conscious conversation.
This webinar will be a roundtable discussion that focuses on the challenging yet ever evolving conversations around issues. Whatever issue that speaks to voters and compels them to use their voice as their vote is the energy that LWVUS must harness to effect lasting and ever-present change to dispel apathy and breathe new life into our democracy.
Join Chelsey R. Cartwright, Democracy Truth Project Manager, Local League Leaders, Pinny Sheoran, co-presidents of the Michigan League Denise Hatrsough and Paula Bowman, and members of the Young Voter Power cohort and Founder & CEO of MisfitMinds Collective, Kristin Turner for an engaging conversation on how issues must be anchored to build trust, harness collective action with an emphasis on unity and transformation as our shared strengths.

We, the LWVWI‘s 60th Anniversary VRA AdHoc Committee would like to invite YOU to our special event. See the graphic below and please share widely within your respective sphere of influence. The keynote address will be delivered by Dianna Wynn, National Board President, LWVUS, during the noon hour program in the Rotunda. Our theme is, "Voting Rights: The Foundation of Democracy”. Our theme reflects the League’s long-standing commitment to this landmark legislation and to restoring the protections that have been weakened over time. Understanding the Three Branches of Government August 20, 2025 12:30 PM-1:30 PM ET
There is a direct and swift assault on the federal government being enacted by the current administration. The power of the pen via executive orders has been brutalized and it has left voters from Arizona to Pennsylvania in a frenzy. What is the scope of each branch of government and why does understanding these roles matter in the long run?
Join LWVUS staff attorney Thomas Tai, Chelsey R. Cartwright, Democracy Truth Project Manager, and Kaitlyn Dowling, Senior Analyst at the Algorithmic Transparency Institute and Rebecca Goldman, Justice Reform Legislative & Policy Manager (TBD) for a conversation that takes a deep dive into why it’s important that voters understand the purview of the executive branch, judicial branch, and legislative branch of government.
The conversation will hinge on why the distinction between branches of government matters, the history behind the separation of powers, and how expanding your knowledge base of this information can inform and influence your work in your state or local League.

Working with Local Election Officials to Anchor Change September 17, 2025 11:00 AM-12:15 PM ET
Local election officials are the lifeblood of our democracy. They power our elections and provide access to the polls for voters across the country. Since the last few election cycles, election officials have faced challenges from harassment at the polls to intimidation at the way they do their jobs. Many election officials have resigned and this brings about another challenge, a deficit in the way in which our elections function.
This webinar will share best practices on building relationships with local election officials. From experiences via voter services committees, to highlighting events that feature local election officials, this webinar will identify ways in which League leaders can get more engaged with local elections and the folks who administer them.
Chelsey Cartwright, Democracy Truth Project Manager will host a conversation with Andrea Miller of the Center for Common Ground, Monica Wills-Brown, Voter Services Vice President of the League of Women Voters Marrietta-Cobb County, and Charis Johnson, President of the League of Women Voters Atlanta-Fulton County along with local election officials in Cobb and Fulton County, Georgia that speaks to why local election officials should be protected and upheld by the will of the voters and the momentum of the movement.

Building Coalitions to Amplify Action October 22, 2025 3:30 PM-5:00 PMET
Building coalitions means being reflective, resonant, and responsive to the needs of your community. League members are active members in their communities, they know them well and they are advocates for issues concerning elections, voter registration, voter guides, and candidates. As trusted messengers in their communities Leagues have institutional knowledge and the information that excels civic engagement.
To build upon the legacy of the League as the trusted resource of election information, Leagues would benefit from an event that underscores the importance of coalition-building with an emphasis on anchoring diverse lived experience and connecting with voters who might not have access to their local Leagues. It is by way of connecting with these voters that deep coalition is built across country of origin, or socio-economic status, or education level. The League is a lever for connecting the dots as championing voting rights for all in our democracy.
Join, Democracy Truth Project manager, Chelsey Cartwright, Founder and CEO of MOV Strategies, Brencia Berry, and Associate Professor of Political Science at Howard University, Dr. Marcus Board, for a conversation on what intentional coalition-building looks like. How do you build relationships with similar “fight for democracy” organizations that speak to inclusion, expanding access and opportunity, and make space for all of those looking for a seat at the table.
