 Fund Development Idea-Generation Meeting

WHAT?

We invite you to join fellow LWVMC members at a meeting to generate ideas for finding potential new donors, creating new fund-raising projects, cultivating potential donors, and thanking donors.

WHY?

Let’s ramp up our fund development efforts to increase our capacity for taking on more "get out the vote" projects and for registering voters during 2024 leading up to the elections in November.

WHEN?

Attend either of the following meetings:

Wednesday, October 25 from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. or

Monday, October 30 from 1:00 until 2:30 p.m.

Both meetings will be held at the LWVMC office at Summit Place.  If you can’t attend either meeting, let me know and we can talk by phone.

QUESTIONS?

Contact Mary Voelker via email at m.voelker@lwvmilwaukee.org or by phone at 414-259-1788.

2024 Elections are around the corner!!

Can you be a Community Volunteer?

The Spring Voter Guide will cover races in 59 municipalities and school districts in Milwaukee and Waukesha County.  We need a community volunteer for each municipality and school district to:

  1. Contact the city, village, town, or school district clerk in November and confirm with him/her their willingness to help us and which offices are up for election in Spring 2024;  then report this information to the  Vote411 Voter Guide Team.

  2. Share with us any key issues in the municipality or school district that could help the VOTE411 team create questions important to the constituents.

  3. In early January, the day after the candidate filing deadline, get the candidate names and contact information from the clerk, and pass that information on to us.  The timing here is critical so the Vote411 team can quickly invite the candidates to participate in the online Spring Voter Guide by answering the questions we have posed to the candidates and then publish their answers in Vote411.org.

Interested?  To volunteer, please contact Sarajane Kennedy (Milwaukee County) or Ellen Trytek (Waukesha County) at voterguide@lwvmilwaukee.org.

Friday, October 27  |  10:00 a.m.

Women from around the world seek refuge in the United States to escape persecution in their home countries. But the journey to asylum is also fraught with challenges: many women experience extreme violence in transit, have to navigate cultural differences in border towns, and are forced to make difficult decisions for the future of their children and families.

Learn more about the complex social, political, and physical obstacles these women face when seeking safety for their families and themselves from Erin M. Barbato, Director of the Immigrant Justice Clinic at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Law School.

Milwaukee, home to the first urban voucher program in the United States, is a major focus of the book. Fitzpatrick won a Pulitzer Prize in 2016 for a series of stories she wrote about school segregation in Florida. She is now an editor for Chalkbeat, a national online education reporting organization.
