 Fund Development Idea-Generation Meeting

October 25th & 30th

WHAT?

We invite you to join fellow LWVMC members at a meeting to generate ideas for finding potential new donors, creating new fund-raising projects, cultivating potential donors, and thanking donors.

WHY?

Let’s ramp up our fund development efforts to increase our capacity for taking on more "get out the vote" projects and for registering voters during 2024 leading up to the elections in November.

WHEN?

Attend either of the following meetings:

Wednesday, October 25 from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. or

Monday, October 30 from 1:00 until 2:30 p.m.

Both meetings will be held at the LWVMC office at Summit Place.  If you can’t attend either meeting, let me know and we can talk by phone.

Registration in the High Schools

We are looking for volunteers to help us register and welcome high school students as new voters.  It is a great experience to be in schools, to assist the students, and to be a part of what we hope is their lifelong commitment to the democratic process.

All high school volunteers are required to take the online high school training (Voter Registration in Milwaukee and Waukesha Area High Schools2.pdf).  At the end of the training, there is a place to sign up to join our call list.  Once on the list, you will receive notices about upcoming registrations and how to sign up for them.

If you have taken the high school training, watch for emails about new registration events.

Can you be a Community Volunteer?

The Spring Voter Guide for VOTE411.org  will cover races in 59 municipalities and school districts in Milwaukee and Waukesha County.  In Milwaukee County, we still need community volunteers for Fox Point Village;  Fox Point Bayside School District;  South Milwaukee;  South Milwaukee School District;  and West Allis.  We also need community volunteers for Waukesha County.  The responsibilities of the community volunteers are to:

1. Contact the city, village, town, or school district clerk in November and confirm with him/her their willingness to help us and which offices are up for election in Spring 2024;  then report this information to the  Vote411 Voter Guide Team.

2. Share with us any key issues in the municipality or school district that could help the VOTE411 team create questions important to the constituents.

3. In early January, the day after the candidate filing deadline, get the candidate names and contact information from the clerk, and pass that information on to us.  The timing here is critical so the Vote411 team can quickly invite the candidates to participate in the online Spring Voter Guide by answering the questions we have posed to the candidates and then publish their answers in VOTE411.org.

Interested?  To volunteer, please contact Sarajane Kennedy (Milwaukee County) or Ellen Trytek (Waukesha County) at voterguide@lwvmilwaukee.org.

In an era of fraught political tension, Hudson offers a guide to civility - a respect for the dignity of others – which she proclaims is the key to bridging the divide. Alexandra Hudson, daughter of the 'Manners Lady,' was raised to respect others. But as she grew up, Hudson discovered a difference between politeness and true civility. From classical philosophers like Epictetus to her own experience working in the federal government, Hudson examines how civility transcends political disagreements. Hudson empowers readers to live tolerantly with others despite deep differences, and to rigorously protest wrongs and debate issues rather than silencing disagreements.
